MALTON DETACHMENT
CADET RECEIVES
PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
On the evening of Thursday 6th May, Cadet Sergeant Rosie Nelson from A Company's Malton Detachment was the happy recipient of a highly-esteemed award from the Fellmongers Company. The award was in recognition of her extensive volunteering during the past twelve months.
The Fellmongers Company of Richmond, North Yorkshire, is an ancient craft and trading company which has its origin in the Middle Ages. Many years ago, they adopted the Green Howards because of that regiment's links to the town. After the Green Howards became 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, the connection continued, and has extended to affiliated cadet units in the North Yorkshire area.
Every year, the Fellmongers Company conduct an awards ceremony in recognition of achieve- ments within The Yorkshire Regiment family.
This year, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the ceremony was conducted online. Luckily for Cadet Sgt Nelson, Company Commander, Major Michelle Goodwin, watched the ceremony with her at Malton Detachment, then made the presentation in person!
Cadet Sergeant Nelson's proactive efforts to improve the standards of both physical and mental health in her community during the Covid-19 emergency epitomise the 'can do' attitude that is fostered in our young people, and she has made all of us extremely proud as a result.
Her citation follows:

mind to it. Since joining Malton Detachment in 2016, Rosie has embraced every opportunity given to her. She has attended all available camps and parade nights and has risen up through the ranks to be one of the most senior cadets in the Company.
Within the Army Cadet Force, Sergeant Nelson achieved her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
and has received a Silver Certificate of Achievement due to her dedication to the Award during the Covid-19 pandemic. Rosie excelled herself during the pandemic, enough so to be awarded the Lt Col Gerrish Award for Outstanding Volunteering. This was awarded due to her building a mini enterprise of making face masks and donating them to raise funds for various charities, including the RBL. Rosie is, and continues to be, an ambassador for mental health and regularly supports her cadets in maintaining a healthy mind.
As a senior cadet, Rosie is expected to be a role model for all the other cadets and her confidence when instructing or during training sessions is exemplary. She always goes the extra mile to support the junior cadets and the levels of respect she has earned from cadets and adult instructors alike is outstanding. Rosie has developed into a confident, outgoing young lady, respected by her peers and colleagues. She has shown that with dedication, hard work and a willingness to learn, anything is achievable.
