February 21st is Pancake Day!
Also known as Shrove Tuesday it is the feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday (February 22nd) – the forty days leading up
to Easter, traditionally a time of fasting. We eat pancakes because, in the past, it was the last chance for a spot of indulgence before forty days of fasting and also an opportunity to eat food that couldn’t be eaten during Lent – eggs, fat and milk – perfect ingredients for pancakes! So how are you going to eat your pancakes? What is your favourite filling?
Pancakes may not be on offer but there is
a warm welcome in St James Church every Tuesday morning from 10am-12noon. Come along for a cuppa, meet old friends and make new ones. We’d love to see you. We’re also there on Saturdays from 10am-12noon.
For those who want to attend, there is also a Tuesday morning Communion Service starting at 9.45am.
Under fives and their grown ups are always welcome at Praise and Play, a group which meets in St James Church, Thrapston, from 9am-10.30am on Monday mornings. There you will be able to enjoy craft, a story, singing,
refreshments and a chance to make new friends. Knitting for Beginners meets on Monday
evenings from 6.30-8pm in St James, Thrapston and is a group where you can come along
and learn how to knit or crochet. It!s free, a
lot of fun and those teaching have plenty of patience. No need to book or even bring your own knitting at the beginning. For more details contact Sue on 01832 733717.
At the time of writing (5.1.23) the boiler in St Nicholas Church, Islip is awaiting repair
and services have been suspended for the time being. You can be sure of a friendly welcome in St James church and Holy Trinity Denford so why not give us a try on a Sunday morning.

During Sunday services in St James, Thrapston, we run JAMES Club for primary school age children to learn about Jesus. For those in secondary school our Youth Bible study group also meets during the services on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month. New members and visitors are always welcome.
