The Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre was the scene yet again for the Inter Corps Swimming and Water Polo Competition which was held on 6/7 December 2017. The 2017 competition was the most successful event for the RAPTC team in recent years. SSgts Fergie Ferguson and Joe Stapleton along with Sgt Andy Syrett represented the Corps in the swimming and qualified through to the finals of their respective events. Water polo welcomed six brand new players to the sport alongside some of the usual stalwarts of the game, noticeably Capt Jack Horner donning their trunks once again. Despite being drawn against a very tough league, comprising of the Infantry (the eventual overall winners), RLC and Signals we performed beyond all expectations and gave a very impressive performance despite lacking significant amount of experience in comparison.
Hoping to build from the success of the 2017 season, and developing on the pool of new players, 2018 will see a series of training days and events culminating in an overseas sports tour to Gibraltar in October 2018. All serving members of the RAPTC are

welcome to join the team, particularly those that have competed or played before. It looks to be an exciting season ahead and one that will hopefully provide solid foundations for the future of RAPTC Swimming & Water Polo.

The 28th Inter Corps Cross Country Championships took place on Wednesday 31 January 2018 hosted by the Royal Army Physical Training Corps. This year’s event saw the championships being contested much earlier than in previous years and only two weeks after the Army Inter Unit Championships. The rationale for this decision was taken by the President of Army Athletics in order to give Army XC Team Captains another race to select athletes for the Inter Service XC Championships. The location for this year’s event was the scenic but somewhat muddy surroundings of 3 RSME Regiment, Minley Manor, Hampshire. 300 male and female athletes from across 8 different Corps lined up at the start ready to endure a testing course. Despite still being in the clutches of a wintery January, the weather on the day was more favourable than expected as athletes battled against their counterparts in almost ideal running conditions.
The sport of XC racing is not widely regarded as a ‘team sport’ but as a bunch of individuals running around in shorts and vests. There are no timeouts, substitutions, halftimes, or other breaks. No athlete can hide on the tracks or be carried by another athlete’s performance. If
