PD Card Operation
4.2. PD Measurement Cycle
When performing PD measurements, the monitor will run through the following cycle:
• Perform measurements on the User Range for all enabled PD inputs.
• Perform measurements on the Auto Range for all enabled PD inputs.
• Perform measurements on the Alert Range for all enabled PD inputs.
• Update Operating Condition data.
• Analyze the PD data for any Triggers and/or Alerts that occurred in this set of
measurements (refer to Section 4.6 for PD Trigger details).
• Resolve any actions that occur, such as saving measurement data or activating the
Alert.
• Update Modbus slave PD data.
The time that it takes to complete a PD measurement cycle depends on the number of
inputs that the monitor has:
# of Input Pairs PD Measurement Cycle Time
3 (BUS only) ~ 17 minutes
6 (PDA or SSC) ~ 32 minutes
9 (SSC only) ~ 48 minutes
12 (PDA or SSC) ~ 65 minutes
NOTE:
When a GuardII+ includes other technologies such as magnetic flux
monitoring or endwinding vibration monitoring, the PD measurement cycle
time will not be significantly affected by these other monitoring
technologies.
4.3. Measurement Ranges
GuardII+ runs PD measurements on three different sensitivity ranges per input; these
sensitivity ranges are referred to as User Range, Auto Range and Alert Range.
4.3.1. User Range
The User Range is selected during commissioning according to the PD levels at the time.
The purpose of this sensitivity is to provide a consistent trend of data from the current PD
levels until the PD increases beyond the User Range. Once the User Range sensitivity is set,
GuardII+ will run measurements at that sensitivity until re-configured to a different sensitivity.
Each input of the monitor can have a different User Range sensitivity.
If the User Range of an input is disabled, then the Auto and Alert Ranges will also be
disabled for that input.
