Safety Memo #26 (N) Criteria for Return to Work (COVID-19)
Date: September 9, 2020
To: ACI ALL
[Criteria for Return to Work (COVID-19)] (N)
ACI has been mindful of the COVID-19 situation and has closely monitored and adapted to following the
guidance of CDC and Government Public Health.
We will keep you updated and continue to support safe worksite environments in this pandemic outbreak.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued new guidelines on Wednesday, April 8th, aimed
at getting workers who have been exposed to the coronavirus in critical fields back to work faster.
[Criteria for minor flu or common cold symptom]
Employees may resume their work as long as they are asymptomatic.
[If temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.8 degrees Celsius or higher]
CDC recommends that workers who have flu-like symptoms should stay home if they are sick until at least 24
hours after their fever is gone. Temperature should be measured without the use of fever-reducing medication
(medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).
[Who have suspected COVID-19 (e.g., developed symptoms of a respiratory infection: cough, sore
throat, shortness of breath, fever), but did not get tested for COVID-19 ]
They can return to work 72 hours after their symptoms are gone as long as they have a signed medical
release.
[Who have confirmed COVID-19 (e.g., developed symptoms of a respiratory infection: cough, sore
throat, shortness of breath, fever)]
Under the old guidance, workers were told to stay at home for 14 days if they were exposed to someone who
had tested positive for coronavirus.
The new guidelines will allow critical workers who have been exposed to go back to work as long as they are
asymptomatic and follow these conditions: taking their temperature before going to work, wearing a face
mask at all times, and practicing social distancing at work as much as possible.
The new guidance is intended to allow health care workers, food supply workers, and others in critical
industries to go back to work sooner, as long as they do not have symptoms.
