sensation
I design to shape human behaviour, comfort, engagement
and interactivity with a space.
I truly enjoy finding the core issues within an existing space and working to resolve
and improve these challenges, while enhancing the function and feel of the space.
I design for all inhabitants, considering inclusion, diversity and sustainability.
Juhani Pallasmaa (2012) said; “We create in the present, for the future from an
essence of the past. Meaning is derived from rich history, inspiration and emotion”.
When I create spaces, I too seek to intertwine past, present and future to develop
a conceptual design approach that will meet the needs and requirements
of the client, users and the brief. I utilize inclusive, multi-sensory, human-
centred design methodologies to create intuitive functional interior spaces.
Pallasmaa (2012) also defined 4 elements to domesticating space and time
for human occupation; gravity, verticality, horizontality and metaphorically.
These elements of domesticating a space are a simple reminder for me to
be thorough, sensitive, inclusive
and observant throughout my
design process.
It is a reminder to consider all five
human senses, to perceive the
project from many perspectives
and to design for all humans.
This is, for me, the most important
part of being an interior designer.
