                       1.A  gerund  is  an  -ing  form  of  a  verb.*  It  functions  as  a   Hiking  is  fun  for  all  ages.

                      5.  Use  the  third-person  singular  form  of  the  verb  when   Winning  the  race  was  an  accomplishment.
