Good News for Gray Seals, or Is It?
been
Good news for the gray seal population has announced. Seal populations are being
grown off the north Atlantic coast of the United States. For many years, seals killed for
their skins, oil, and meat. However, since 1972, they have be protected by U.S. law, and
they cannot be killed. Many people worry, however, that the seal population is getting
out of control, and that nothing will been done to manage it. Fishermen are complaining
because large amounts of fish are eating by the seals. In addition, there is the shark
problem. Sharks like to eat seals, so when seals move into an area, sharks usually
follow. In fact, many more sharks can be seen in the areas where seal populations have
increased. Naturally, swimmers are concerned about to be attacked by sharks. Swimmer
Jon Turner says, “It’s great that the gray seal population has come back, but now I have to
be careful not to get bite by a shark!”
