Organization Profile
The TENDAI Steps Together Trial is a two-arm randomized effectiveness trial
evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of an intervention for depression
combined with counselling for adherence to antiretroviral therapy in patients living with
HIV. The Tendai Steps Together Trial is a study conducted by the University of
Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences in collaboration with King’s College London
Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (London UK) and the Department
of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Job Description
The position involves carrying out research related clinical duties including supervising
adherence counsellors in delivering a psychological intervention, delivering a
psychological intervention, patient recruitment, clinical evaluation and follow up,
according to internationally recognized standards of ethical conduct of mental health
research. This post would suit a nurse with an interest in mental health and with some
experience in counselling.
Purpose of the Position
To provide a direct link between the study participant and the study; To provide patient-
oriented care in a professional and respectful manner; To work closely with clinics and
their nursing staff to provide optimal care for patients in the recruitment sites
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
To carry out all study related procedures including clinical evaluations, venepuncture,
participant follow up, and delivering a psychological intervention; Delivering a
psychological intervention under the supervision of a clinical psychologist; To assess
participants for suicide risk; To complete case reporting forms and enter data into a
database; To ensure accurate clinical data is obtained from all study sites; To ensure
timely collection and delivery of specimens to the labs; To ensure timely receipt of
results for study participants; To supervise adherence counsellors delivering the
intervention; To deliver intervention sessions to participants; To ensure that all
procedures are done in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for clinical
research; To be accessible to study participants and their families in order to address all
