當代經濟發展模式下野生動物的保育
── 以石虎為例論壇
DISCUSSION FORUM: HOW TO PURSUE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WITHOUT SACRIFICING ANIMAL PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION, THE LEOPARD CAT (PRIONAILURUS BENGALENSIS CHINENSIS) CASE STUDY
TSPCA前往參與當代動物思潮與挺挺網絡共同舉 辦的「當代經濟發展模式下野生動物的保育―― 以石虎為例」論壇，探討近年來台灣野生動物的 生態環境因為經濟發展因素不斷遭受破壞，眾多 開發案蠶食鯨吞著野生動物生存環境的今天，我 們是否更應該思考經濟與生態之間的平衡，論壇 中以石虎為例，闡述目前野生動物所面臨的多方 困境，並分享南投特生中心如何改善在地雞農與 石虎之間關係，讓石虎保育更能深植人心，TSP- CA呼籲，台灣石虎目前推估已不到五百隻，保 育不僅僅只需要你我的力量，所以請將保育石虎 的理念傳達給更多人，並且選用綠色保育標章的 農作，減少生態破壞，讓野生動物得以生存。
TSPCA was invited to participate in a discussion forum organized by Thought of Animals (代動物思潮) and Love SupporTing (挺挺網絡). The forum was organized in response to increasing ecological and environment deterioration, particularly, in terms of habitat loss and destruction for wild animals around Taiwan in recent years as a result of pursuing economic development. There is often a conflict of interest between the two but we must strive for balance between economy and ecology. The example demonstrated in the forum was the leopard cat case study, researchers from the Nantou Endemic Species Research Institute were able to improve the relationship between the local chicken farmers and to persuade them to participate in the conservation efforts for the leopard cats on their land. TSPCA voiced our support to increase conservation efforts to save this precious species, as the leopard cat population in Taiwan is currently estimated to be less than ve hundred. In addition, grass roots education of conservation concepts and the use of green farming techniques will all help to reduce ecological damage, giving wild animals a better chance of survival.
