KYLEMORE TODAY

        The Kylemore Estate Today

Now look at the map below: it shows almost the same area, as it looks today. Although the style is different,
some of the features have stayed the same. The modern map is more colourful and detailed. Maps have
graphics called keys used to give us information. The meaning of each key is shown on the legend at the
bottom of the map. For example, there are keys to show picnic areas and the pigsty. Numbers are also used
which correspond to signage on the estate.

                                                      Over To You
        Imagine Your Estate

Imagine finding the perfect spot to build your dream estate. Imagine walking through your
estate: what would it look like? What would it feel like to live there? What would it be called?

        • Draw your estate from your imagination: It could contain the castle you designed
previously or completely different buildings. Fill the page, it can be as neat or
           topsy-turvy as you like!

        • Map your estate: Create a map legend and keys. Label all the parts of your estate. When you are finished sit
with a friend and show each other your estates and talk about all the details.

        • Collaborate: Display all the estates created by your classmates on the floor or along the walls and explore
each one. Are there rivers or roads you could extend to connect the estates? What about adding in services
that all the estates will need, such as transport or communications systems, a giant zip wire swinging from
the very first estate to the end of the very last estate? Now you have your own community!
