Yesterday when I arrived home, I couldn’t believe my eyes:
                      ▪ Someone had broken into my house.

                      ▪ They had broken the door and the window.

                      ▪ They had stolen all my money.

                      ▪ They had even eaten the food in the fridge.

                  STEP 2
Ask students which things happened first? Had those terrible things happened before or
                  after arriving?
(Board) Draw a diagram to make the situation clearer:

The function of the Past Perfect tense is to talk about an event or activity that was
completed before another event, activity or time in the past. When using this tense, there
will always be two past events or activities, or an event with a particular time in the past.

yesterday. Write down a series of events that took place yesterday and mark them in their
                  corresponding place in the timeline:
(board) I left the school at 6pm.
(board) My mother started preparing dinner at 6 and finished at 7.
