GRACE, Exploring Its Riches
grace He received was to save humanity from their sins. It
was not to further His skills, creativity and productivity as a
carpenter.
“Then He went out from there and came to His
own country, and His disciples followed Him.
And when the Sabbath had come, He began to
teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him
were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get
these things? And what wisdom is this which is
given to Him, that such mighty works are
performed by His hands! Is this not the carpenter,
the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses,
Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here
with us?” So they were offended at Him”
(Mark 6:1-3).
Jesus returned to His community with unusual grace to
bless, teach and heal His countrymen; but they still saw
Him as the neighbourhood carpenter who used to carve
their doors and mend their stools. He spoke with unusual
wisdom and power, but they could not relate to that. They
could only relate to His past deeds and duties, not “this new
thing” He was doing. Thank God for Jesus. He did not
relate to the grace He had received according to human
definition or opinion. He just simply yielded to the grace
He had received and did mighty things in different
communities through it.
