P. 8

The first exercise in the workbook is the College Prep Portfolio Planner. This exercise is
provided as a method of tracking all the skills you identify while completing the rest of the
exercises. Upon completion of each exercise, you will be reminded to return to your College
Prep Portfolio Planner and fill in all the skills you identified during the exercise. The planner
will become your guide to building your college prep portfolio.

These exercises in this workbook should not be inserted into your career portfolio. They are
to guide you through the portfolio process. Additionally, many of these exercises are
developed so you may continue to add to them throughout your college career and beyond.

The lessons you learn in this workbook will serve you now and in the future. Once in college,
you are at the perfect position to continue identify the skills you will get out of each class and
begin collecting the projects, reports, and materials to demonstrate your new skills. The

College Prep Portfolio then becomes a Career Portfolio, giving you work samples that can
support you in your chosen career. Many college seniors struggle to assemble a career
portfolio to show why they are the right person for the job. Continuing to collect work
samples and achievements from classes, part-time jobs, volunteer efforts, and extracurricular
activities while in college, will put you ahead when it comes to getting a highly coveted
internship, being accepted into graduate school, or getting a prestigious job on graduation.
