No. 3 – Dietetic Competency Mapping

               Overview/Goals:

               The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has a list of competencies that graduating students
               must have to become dietetic professionals. Every accredited institution must show how their
               courses support these guidelines.

               This exercise will help you take a look at your current plan of study and see how the work you
               do in the courses you are taking in college help you develop your career in dietetics. You will
               also look at experiences you have outside of the classroom and map those to competencies in
               the dietetic profession.

               Instructions:

                                             For Evaluation Only
               Materials needed:  Your plan of study and course catalog or course descriptions

               1.  Get a copy of your current plan of study including your core courses, as well as your
                   electives and general courses required.

               2.  Take a look at the Core Competencies for RD’s in Appendix A and compare them to the
                   course descriptions. complete the form for each section, listing the course, brief
                   description, competencies, and possible projects in the class.

                          a.  If you have already taken the course, use the syllabus from each class to help
                              you identify projects and competencies.
                          b.  If you have not taken the course, look at the course description to try and
                              determine the most likely competencies and projects you would have in the
                              class.

               3.  For the areas of Public Health, Community Service, Care/Soft Skills – identify activities you
                   have done or could do in the future that would help you meet the competencies for being
                   an RD.
