Career Portfolio

                                    Workbook for Dietitians

A career portfolio is more than just a document you can show to an internship director,
teacher, potential employer, or current employer; it’s a process. A process that allows you to
better understand what skills you have to offer and what skill areas you still need to develop.
We highly recommend using this book in coordination with the book Creating Your Career
                                     ©2017 Learnovation, LLC

                                             For Evaluation Only

The purpose of this workbook is to take you through a series of exercises that will help you
gain insight into your own skills, talents, and abilities. The exercises in this workbook will also
assist you in identifying areas in which you are lacking skills and help you create a plan for
improving upon areas of skill deficit. This workbook will also help you identify and gather
work samples that prove your skills, create a plan for developing a career portfolio, and assist
you in tracking your personal career development plan.

The exercises will help you better understand:

 The difference between hard and soft skills
 What skills you currently have
 Where you learned those skills
 How to learn more skills
 How to prove what skills you have
 How to quantify skills from an internship
 How to transition skills for professional development.

The first exercise in the workbook is the Career Portfolio Planner. This exercise is provided as
a method of tracking all the skills you identify while completing the rest of the exercises.
Upon completion of each exercise, you will be reminded to return to your Career Portfolio
Planner and fill in all the skills you identified during the exercise. The planner will become
your guide to building your career portfolio.

These exercises should NOT be inserted into your career portfolio. They are to guide you
through the portfolio process. Additionally, many of these exercises are developed so you may
continue to add to them throughout your professional development.
