1.6 Approaches to Quality Assurance
In line with the functions of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Section 33B (1) of Act 520 mentions the responsibility of CIDB
for the accreditation of construction personnel. The Act 520 also provides CIDB with the legal rights to approve training programmes (and its providers) and competent individuals through a formal recognition and written assurances, including the awarding of certificate or any other qualifications. For this purpose, CIDB introduces the Institutional Compliance Audit and the Programme Accreditation for construction Industry:
i. The Institutional Compliance Audit for the purpose of self-review focuses on the capacity and capability of the internal quality assurance system of the approved training provider (ATP) to evaluate the training programmes it offers. In a sense, a self-review
audit is an exercise in accrediting the internal quality assurance
system of the ATP.
ii. Programme Accreditation is a process to recognise that the design,
development, delivery and all other related activities of a training programme provided for construction industry meet the criteria and
