also the basis in awarding qualifications. Hence, the methods of assessing trainees have to be clear, consistent, effective, reliable and in line with current practices and must clearly support the achievement of training outcomes.
i. Relationship Between Assessment and Training
The approved training provider (ATP) has to ensure that the principles, methods and practices of trainee assessment must be aligned with training outcomes and the curriculum. Assessment must be consistent with the levels defined in the Construction Industry Qualifications Framework (CIQF), the four clusters of training outcomes and the training programme criteria. The link between assessment and training programme
outcomes should be reviewed periodically to ensure its effectiveness.
ii. Assessment Methods
The ATP has a variety of methods and tools used appropriately to assess training outcomes and competencies. Assessment must be summative and formative. There must be mechanisms to ensure the validity, reliability, consistency, currency and fairness of the trainee assessment system. The assessment methods must be reviewed at appropriate scheduled intervals to ensure currency. The methods of trainee assessment, including the grading criteria, must be documented and communicated to trainees on commencement of a training programme. The methods of
