                                                                                            DEPARTMENT
                                                    HUMANITIES

Humanities refer to studies intended to provide general knowledge and intellectual skills.
Humanities are also studies about human culture and environment, norms and values. We
therefore aim at building future leaders of this great nation with great awareness of their
environment, inculcating in them the six pillars of character which are: Responsibility, Caring,
Fairness, Citizenship, Respect and Trustworthiness knowing very well that character counts all
the time. These as well as other right values, we impact in them through different subjects of
discipline such as Civic and Security Education, Religious Studies, Social Studies, History,
Government and Geography. Studying the humanities gives us general knowledge of the world
around us and knowledge of our rights and responsibilities as citizens of this great country,
         Nigeria.
In addition, pupils and students are taught to contribute to the growth and development of
the nation and to exercise their political rights at the right age of 18 and above as qualified
citizens, in order to ensure that the right leaders are chosen for the country across all levels
of government and spheres of life; hence the need for a free and fair election.

Importance of free and fair elections

A free and fair election is important for the following reasons:
              1. It brings about free choice of leaders.

              2. It gives room for popular participation: the citizens are encouraged to take part in
decision making and to make meaningful contributions to the welfare of the country.
              3. Measurement of public opinion: the result of a free and fair election can be used to
determine public opinion on any issue or about any government.
              4. It makes leaders accountable.

              5. It ensures peaceful change of government.
              6. Healthy rivalry: periodic election gives all the political parties the opportunity to engage
in healthy rivalry. It gives them room to constructively criticize
unpopular government decisions and offer better alternatives. This

will give them a better chance at the next election.

We do hope and pray for a better future for our children and generations
to come, and a better future for Nigeria our dear country. God bless
you; God bless Blooms Academy; God bless Nigeria.
