Level III Phase 2
INTRODUCTION
According to CHED, extension is the act of disseminating information and
transferring technology to particular industries and target audiences to enable them to
significantly improve production, community and/or institutions, and quality of life while
also advancing the HEI's academic and research programs (CMO No.8, s. 2010).
Extension has also been defined by CHED as the systematic transfer of technology,
innovation, or information generated by HEIs and its partners (communities, business,
and industry), in the context of HEIs as producers of knowledge or hubs of innovations,
to seek solutions to particular development concerns (CMO No. 52, s.2016).
Extension is consequently more focused on high-impact sustainable community
development because of its nature and mission. A community outreach program, as
contrast to an extension program, is more of a temporary measure that is carried out as
needed, such as providing aid to communities affected by disasters or carrying out one-
time events like tree planting, bloodletting, or coastal cleanup. A planned series of actions
that are intended to solve a specific development issue and bring about a more significant
improvement in people's lives make up an extension program.
J.H. Cerilles State College as an HEI strives for excellence in community and
extension services through its progressive expansion of the scientific and technological
knowledge for the improvement of the quality of life of the people in Zamboanga Peninsula
and its neighboring regions. It aims generally for human advancement through its relevant
extension programs and projects, and thus serves as an instrument of the government for
local, national, and global development.
