P. 16

The definition of thought leadership that we focus on is:

“Thought leaders are the informed opinion leaders and the go-to people in the field of

expertise. They are trusted sources who move and inspire people with innovative
ideas; turn ideas into reality, and know and show how to replicate their success.

Over time, they create a dedicated group of friends, fans and followers to help them

replicate and scale their ideas into sustainable change not just in one company but in
an industry, niche or across an entire ecosystem” (Brosseau 2014).

Yes, indeed… the definition is quite a mouthful, and Mr Kurtzman did not see that
one coming either! Don’t fret, keep on reading, and we will break it down for you in

               the next section.

Mr Kurzman may be forgiven for his limited definition. There are three different types
               of thought leadership:

                   – Industry thought leadership. This leadership focuses on the news and
trends within an industry. You develop innovative aspects in answer to

                       industry issues.

                   – Organisational thought leadership. Within an organisation, this leader will
mirror and drive the organisation’s vision and strategy.

                                                                                                       16
