Michael Hart created the first eBook in 1971 while he was a

student at the University of Illinois. He typed the entire text of
the Declaration of Independence onto a computer and made

it available for others to download via ARPAnet. Six people

downloaded his eBook version of the Declaration of
                                       independence.

The beauty of this book is that you do not need to read it sequentially. It is designed

in such a way that if the content is linked to another chapter, you can jump to it there
and then depending on your specific needs. All you need to do is click on the

hyperlink. This book should be something you have with you everywhere, on your

phone, iPad and computer. Our goal is to provide you with an “in-your-pocket”
               reference book.

This eBook is adaptable (reflowable) and provides you, the reader, with a range of
choices such as changing the font, orientation and screen size adaptation.

               About eBooks

This handbook is in eBook form. As this might be your first time using an eBook, we
share some of the advantages of eBooks with you in this section. You will see that

they provide more versatility than print and have many advantages that make the

reading experience easier and more enjoyable.

A book created using technology is magic. Although many will argue that nothing
beats the smell of a book in your hand, an eBook allow the author to include more

readers and achieve more learning goals. There are seven main ‘affordances’ that
the use of technology allow. An affordance is defined as the tasks users can perform

with technology at their disposal. To appreciate these technology affordances one

needs to be aware of them.
