Page 39 - Racing Toward Judgement
P. 39
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour
shall uphold the humble in spirit.
(Proverbs 16:18;29:23 ssv)
Two weeks after the President returned from his lofty
trip, the agony of Watergate began. Ever since, Amer-
ica has been a troubled nation racing towards judgment.
Watergate should have been a warning to this nation
that if God judges one man because of pride, stripping
him of dignity and a place in history, He will likewise
judge the entire nation for its pride and godless arro-
gance: "For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon
every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one
that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low" (Isaiah
2:12 KJV).
While this nation allows one man to have heaped
upon himself the sins and blame of an entire govern-
ment, God calls for personal responsibility. This nation
has made its former president a scapegoat for its corpo-
rate sins. It is a whitewash to turn eyes away from the
horrible crimes still lingering in government's high
places. This wickedness still in high places cannot find
atonement in the crucifixion of a fallen President. This
is a proud nation that makes its nest in the stars and
now seeks to conquer other planets. But God laughs at
these attempts, and He will bring us down to the dust.
Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and
though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence
will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.
(Obadiah 4 icjv)
thou woundedst the head of the house of
the wicked. . .
(Habakkuk 3:13 KJV)

Britain was now less significant than Uganda. He
