Page 44 - Racing Toward Judgement
P. 44
A chosen people, planted in a good land, had pol-
luted themselves. Shiloh, God's house, became a den of
robbers and a place of corruption. Lip service and tra-
dition were heaped upon halfhearted sacrifices.
God raised up a voice; Little Samuel. "And the Lord
said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a new thing in Israel,
at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall
tingle. . . . I will judge his house for ever for the iniq-
uity which he knoweth; because his sons made them-
selves vile, and he restrained them not" (1 Samuel 3:11,
13 Icjv).
By vision God pronounced doom on the house of Eli
and the nation Israel, for "the word of Samuel came to
all Israel." God declared specific judgment to happen
all in one day: "And this shall be a sign unto thee, that
shall come upon thy two Sons. . . in one day they shall
die . . ." (1 Samuel 2:34).
What a terrible day of judgment that was! The glory
of the Lord departed and Ichabod was born. All the
predictions of judgment came to pass in very short time.
And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smit-
ten, and they fled every man into his tent: and
there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of
Israel thirty thousand footmen. And the ark of
God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni
and Phinehas, were slain.
(1 Samuel 4: 10,11 icjv)
Is America modern Shiloh? Will the glory of the Lord
depart from us, just as from Israel in the days of
Eli? In one day God can spank this nation. In one day
our glory can fade. In one day we could be driven to
our knees. In one day we could go from first to last.
God is saying, "Remember Shiloh."
