In November, a small group of approximately twelve Hand Therapists working in both the public and private practice sectors came together to form the CHT Patient Advocacy Group. The purposes of the group was to brainstorm moving the specialty of hand therapy forward and petition the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba to allow for an additional registry at the College (which would indicate if a therapist held the CHT credential).
At the end of January, the group submitted supporting letters from two of the most prominent hand surgeons in Manitoba, as well as, supporting letters from 49 Physiotherapy colleagues. Specialization is a hot topic both in this Province and beyond. Will keep you posted on what happens at the College of Physiotherapists next council meeting.

The Ottawa CSHT conference committee continues its hard work to make the upcoming conference a success. Please register for what promises to be an exciting and informative conference! We hope to see you there in large numbers!
3 therapists attended the first symposium on peripheral nerves in London in November and found it very informative.
In January, a therapist presented at the education day of the plastic residents of TOH and it was very well received. As well in February, another therapist will be presenting at hand rounds on the therapy post hand fractures.
The yearly Winterlude is on and while skating on the frozen canal is a great way to get some outdoor exercise, it does keep us busy with its loads of fracture hence its nickname "Fracturlude " by the orthopaedic surgeons!
Happy winter,
Hope to see many of you in April at the conference!
