Periwinkle stayed in her nest until the next
day. Then she gathered her acorn cups, dried
herbs, berries, nuts and seeds, some spider
web rope and a warm blanket she knitted
from tufts of deer down caught on briars and
bushes.
With one last look at her nest in the woods,
she flew to Jeped, the oldest and wisest fairy
and told her about the hawk.
