Item #2 (High-Intermediate Level)
The Rain didn’t Come
If (you) look at the Jordan Valley from above, everything seems green and
beautiful. But when (you) come closer, (you) realize that the situation isn’t
very good. We’re already in the middle of March, and the wheat, which
(they) already sowed twice, didn’t grow to the desired height. The farmers
invest a lot of money into every dunam, and when they don’t have
anything to sell (they) take in the financial losses. The situation isn’t better
at the Jezreel Valley either. Even though the rain came down in the
beginning of the winter and gave farmers hope, it wasn’t enough, and the
wheat didn’t grow here as well. We won’t feel a shortage in bread, but
(those) who will lose from this Israeli winter are the farmers of the north.
