Angry at the Government

After demonstratively cancelling the meal with the Prime Minister, leaders
of reform and conservative Jews came to the Knesset today to tell the
ministers what they think about the decisions they made yesterday –
passing the conversion bill and cancelling the Western Wall plan. So what
is the Western Wall plan really? The Western Wall has the men’s section
and women’s section that we all know, and at the end, beyond the
Mughrabi Gate, is the southern plaza, Israel’s section, where today (one)
can hold a mixed prayer of any practice. According to the plan, the plaza
was supposed to undergo renovations and get an entrance through the main
gate, and in addition be managed by an assembly of government
representatives and the different sects. After cancelling the plan yesterday
by the government, things will stay as they are today, the plaza will remain
open for prayers, but the different sects say it’s neglected and doesn’t offer
a proper solution. The suspense at the coalition is expected to dissipate
soon, no one has an interest in disassembling the government, but the crisis
with the Jews of the United States will probably be with us for a long time.
