Wants to be a Terrorist
Six months after the shooting down of the Russian plane by ISIS in Sinai,
this headline didn’t just get the regions air-forces on their feet, but the
whole world. A hijacker, armed with a bomb, demands to fly to Turkey
and then to Cyprus. Egypt Air’s Air Bus three twenty, with its fifty five
passengers including Americans, British and Dutch, landed in Larnaca, far
from the terminal and near the beach. Women and children and most of the
passengers were quickly released, rumors of the hijacker’s identity were
flying [lit. ran]. One thing was certain, this wasn’t a terror attack, but a
private person who is demanding, maybe, to talk to his ex-wife. And even
though the situation was still dramatic, suddenly a crew member swung
down from the cockpit window and jumped free. Still, Cyprus’ negotiation
teams believed it would end well, and so it did. Mustafa turned himself in
and was arrested. His daughter told that her father wasn’t in contact with
the family, and didn’t undergo a process of radicalization. The incident of
course re-awakens the question marks over security arrangements in
Egypt’s airports. In summary of the event - it was all over after six hours,
and flight schedule was back in order.
