Syteria was formed in 2015 by Girlschool guitarist Jackie Chambers. Through
a social media friend, she was introduced to Julia Vocal. Julia introduced her
brother, drummer Pablo, to the band, and Syteria was born. After original
bassist Kiera left the band, Steph Dawson was engaged to fill the bass duties.
I caught up with Jackie and Julia to find out a bit more about the band and to
see how their latest album is faring.
Mal Whichelow: When did you form Syteria and what made you want to
do another project outside of Girlschool?
Jackie Chambers: I’ve been with Girlschool almost 25 years now and the
whole time I’ve been in another band as well as them, mainly because I LOVE
playing gigs and wanted to do more.
MW: Did you already know Julia and Pablo?
Jax: I met Julia via a Facebook friend who put me in touch with her. We met
up, got along, and then started looking for a bassist close by. We found Keira
and then found a local drummer too, but she didn’t work out. Julia suggested
her brother Pablo could help us out until we found a drummer and as soon as
I heard him play, I knew he was the right fit for us. When I met Julia, I hadn’t
even heard her sing and realised I’d found someone special. Same with Pablo
too -- both very talented people.
