Kiki Plesha: It’s a pleasure to catch up with you! It’s been a while
since your video ‘Faster’ was featured on The One – Indie Music
Battle on REELZ. Fire Sets Fire had quite a number 1 run there!
What was that like?
Fire Sets Fire: It was amazing to be selected to be on such a
groundbreaking show and to compete against so many different
musical styles. We went up against some incredibly talented artists
and we were truly humbled to be voted as #1 for the majority of
episodes.
KP: Every band has a backstory. Let’s talk about Fire Sets Fire
and the group’s inception. How was the group formed and when
did this project come together?
FSF: The Fire started in Los Angeles CA in 2012. We wanted to put
together a guitar heavy authentic original hard rock band that wasn’t
pumping out the typical cookie cutter songs. We wanted to go back
to the basics and craft songs with hard riffs, screaming guitar solos,
and real lyrics that hit home.
KP: Introduce the band and talk a bit about the members and
their musical backgrounds/influences.
FSF: I am Steve, one of the guitarists and founder of the band. I
played with our drummer Shane in many bands, most notably, our
punk band Rubberneck. Starting out, the two of us we knew we
wanted to add a second guitarist right away to add the power, and
that was Brooks. He is a solid player with a background as a
recording engineer that helped a lot in making our first recordings.
Next came our singer Matt who came from a band called Paris Green.
Matt came in and from the first rehearsal, completely owned the
songs. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, and we knew right away
he was the perfect guy to achieve what we set out to do. At first, we
went through a few bass players but finally found Ray who also had
been in rock and metal bands forever. He came in and added that
missing piece we desperately needed. Finally, we had the band that
we all hoped to put together and everybody was really stoked!
