Next were the winners of “Jessica Foxley Unsigned” (www.jessicafoxley.com/unsigned), the London-based Robert
J. Hunter Band, after an introduction by Paul and Margaret Foxley. With only a few weeks to prepare for this
appearance, they brought their own brand of rhythm and blues…and I am glad they did! What a memorable set, with
pure energy bursting from the stage -- peppered with great guitar playing from Robert. If I had to find a slight criticism,
it would be that the bass player kept turning his back to the audience, which would be marked down in Memphis. But
no matter which way anyone was facing, the blanket of blues that covered the room was not to be missed.

The fourth band up, LaVendore Rouge, hails from the oldest town in England, Colchester, Essex. In my opinion, this is
one of the most exciting bands to emerge onto the U.K. roots scene today. Suffice to say that this performance will not
be the one and only time I see this electrifying band – I will make it a point to watch for future shows. The stage
persona of vocalist Jojo Burgess was reminiscent of Johnny Depp and “Pirates of the Caribbean” -- even the first song
was called “Dead Man’s Chest”. Blues guitarist Joel Fisk served up supreme musicianship, and enticing entertainment
engulfed the set -- with the whole band delivering a wall of sound, whose onslaught was befitting a cannon-firing
display that any pirate ship would have been proud to launch. These judges are in for a very difficult task, one that I
don’t envy.
