Summerfest 2022! Since 2016 ION Indie Magazine has been honored to
send our photojournalists to cover this annual muti-entertainment festival
featuring the best in music and entertainment from around the world. This
year, photojournalist Michael Rushton of Rockshow Pics had boots on the
ground and was behind the lens capturing this 50+ year music festival held
in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Summerfest 2022 was presented by
American Family Insurance, and as they say it, “it’s all about bringing you

shows you’ll brag about and moments that you just can’t miss.”

This year there were more stages and picture-perfect spaces on the
lakefront with local eats, drinks, shopping, and even an all-new children’s
area for your up-and-coming little rockers. Now that sounds like family fun!

The very first Summerfest was held in 1968 at the Henry Maier Festival
Park, alongside Lake Michigan and Milwaukee's central business district.
Summerfest attracts roughly 800,000 people every year, promoting itself as
                "The World's Largest Music Festival.”

The 75-acre park hosts various music performances over 11 days from late
June until early July. What amazes me is the festival includes 12 stages
with over 1000 acts. That’s a lot of music! The bands, artists, and
performers include many talented local acts and of course, nationally known
music talent from all genres. The performance schedule is jam-packed and

continuing throughout the grounds from noon to midnight, including the
                23,000-capacity American Family Insurance Amphitheater.

Summerfest also showcases a wide variety of food from many Milwaukee-
area restaurants, alone with a plethora of attractions that include shopping
vendors, fireworks on opening night, family activities, and so much more.
