Meresha: Kickstarter is another example of something that doesn’t happen by itself. I was
blessed to have quite a few people support that very early in my career, but it did mean
reaching out to each of them individually. I really appreciated it.
TB: How have you grown as a musician and as a writer since your first EP to now?
Meresha: I didn’t use a metronome for my first EP. The timing was off, and it was technically
not quite there. I’ve learned a lot since about writing and composing, also through working
with others.
TB: Your latest release is the song ‘Trouble.’ What is the story behind this song?
Meresha: We’ve been locked down for a few years. For me, it meant I could not play live for
over two years. I think a lot of people are ready again for some ‘Trouble.’
TB: Do you have any plans for a tour?
Meresha: I am on the ‘Trouble Tour’ right now. I just played a few shows in Florida and will
play Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on May 29th. It’s a really cool venue in a city I last played
before Covid.
TB: Looking at what you have accomplished, what is some advice you would give an
individual looking to jump into a music career?
Meresha: You have to really love it. Besides learning your craft, you must learn the business.
You need to be open to making contacts in various places and following up. Music is not a
very structured process compared to most jobs. You need to be open to that.
Meresha has been able to achieve some success towards her
dream of being a musician since her family moved to the U.S.
If what she has accomplished in the first ten years since the
move is any indication, the future for Meresha looks very
promising. You can learn more about Meresha and follow her
