Yard of Blondes started out in France as a duo of Fanny
Hill and Vincent Walter. According to their biography, the
two moved to the United States in 2010, getting lost in the
California desert to start a new life. And what a journey it
has been for Fanny and Vincent!
Yard of Blondes has appeared on the compilation album
“Highway 62 Love Songs” featuring Eric Burdon of The
Animals’ fame. In 2016, Yard Of Blondes was featured on
the compilation “I Love You All the Time,” along with
Florence & The Machine, Kings Of Leon, Jimmy Eat
World, and many more, with all of the proceeds benefiting
the victims of the 2015 Paris attack. Recently, the group’s
video “Je Veux Danser Tout L’ete” was selected for the
new televised music competition show on REELZ “The
One – Indie Music Battle” -- and has been voted into the
top 10 rankings!
Recently, I had the pleasure to conduct a short interview
with Fanny.
Tim Board: How did the band decide on the name Yard
of Blondes?
Fanny Hill: The name Yard Of Blondes comes from the
Jeff Buckley song ‘Yard of Blonde Girls.’ Actually, it was a
song originally performed by a LA girl band called The
Nymphs. Buckley covered it on his second unfinished
record, ‘Sketches For My Sweetheart the Drunk.’ We
loved the mystery and sexiness of the song. Also, it was
somehow reminiscent of a movie we loved, ‘The Virgin
Suicides,’ by Sofia Coppola. That was the atmosphere we
wanted to convey through our music.
TB: How has the various shutdowns for COVID 19
impacted Yard of Blondes?
FH: Actually, we got pretty lucky because at the beginning
of the pandemic we got signed to Die Laughing Records
and Golden Robot, two really cool indie labels. Of course,
we had to cancel some shows plans and we had to
postpone the release of our first album to early 2021.
We’re trying to make the most of it and we just release
‘Close to Home,’ an EP recorded live from home.
TB: What new projects are the group working on?
FH: We are preparing the release of our next two singles,
a Christmas song, a new music video. Vincent is also
recording a solo album.
