Lesson 1 Reflection 07 August 2019 (C. WIL 3)
The lesson did not go as I anticipated it. I observed two lessons for grade 11 before my mentor teacher gave me my
first lesson to facilitate teaching and learning on this very same grade. From the two lesson I observed, I noticed that
the teacher did much talking and the learners were quiet most of the time and so I assumed that even for my first
lesson I was going to do much talking but on the contrary, the learners took over the lesson in a more fruitful way.
Learners were asking questions and they were also answering the questions I posed to them. What I loved most about
my first lesson is that learners were even volunteering to come in front and explain how they arrived to their answers.
I was able to achieve all the lesson objectives in time, however I felt the need for more time to do different examples
with the learners because I picked up that there were few learners who were having challenges with calculations
related to Ohm’s Law. I also observed that some learners were unhappy with the pace of my teaching, they told me
that I speak too fast and I even move on very quick. So I now know that for the next lesson I should try to speak slowly
to accommodate all learners and also not rush to finish the content. I actually learned a lot on my first lesson. I learned
that it helps learners a lot when they relate to the teacher if the teacher motivates them and tell them how much he
or she believes in them. So, for the next lesson, I will start off with some motivation, sharing a little story about myself
that could encourage them in their studies like I did on my first lesson.
What did not work was that I was not able to give them a class-activity after the lesson.
