Reflection on my second lesson on Physical Science
On my second lesson it was the same content but with a different group. I did the same thing as on the first group,
introduced myself and opened up to the learners for the first few minutes. I knew names of most of the learners in that
group because of the observation I had the previous week. While asking questions, I would point out using their names
and that made them to pay more attention to what I was saying. I would say, the classroom had an atmosphere that
was on a personal level and that influenced my presentation in a good way because I knew what their challenges
and their strengths were as they were fewer (11 learners in total). These small group of learners changed my teaching
approach in to something similar to tutoring because I was able to attend to each learner separately. It was very easy
to manage the classroom and thus almost most of the time was used wisely. I was able to finish the whole content
that was planned for that day and now I had a new theory that the content was not overloaded on my lesson with
the other group but the greater the number the more harder it is to finish the work of the day on time if you pay
attention to everyone in the classroom.
This time I did not have any challenges. My teaching was smooth and the assignment proved that they were learning
as they were all able to find the solutions to the problems. I took advantage of their small number to help each and
every learner, knowing the misconceptions that each learner had and addressing them in the classroom. I was also
able to mark their work on the very same day and do corrections as well.
I learned to teach in a more inclusive way, catering for everyone. Because the learners were very few, I was able to
get their prior knowledge and thus I would say that I have learned the need to know what your learners know and
also what they do not know because then you will teach content that is relevant. Professionally I now know how to
deal with the classroom that has both excelling learners and also developing learners.
