Personal Reflections (A. WIL 1)

Reflection on my first lesson on Physical Science
While presenting my lesson on work, energy & power, I noticed that there were few classroom contexts that influenced

my presentation both positive and negative. As I stood in front of the learners, the classroom was filled with silence
and all eyes were on me as expected but the whole situation made me feel nervous for some time. Yet the smiles on

their faces gave me confidence. The participation of the learners made it easy for me to deliver my lesson. When I

asked questions, a number of learners raised their hands and with that I was able to conclude that the learners were
engaging with the content. At that point I believed that preparation is very important to have participating learners.

When I asked learners to work on problems and also giving them a chance to come solve the problems on the board,
they were very excited and very participative. I concluded that the learners are not happy when they are just listening

                  to the teacher.
Challenges I experienced were time management and summarizing the work of the day. Instead of working on

finishing my lesson, I had to change my approach making sure that the learners were mastering the content as they
had questions that were relevant. I picked up that they had beliefs about work and energy that were not scientific, I

therefore had to find a better way to persuade them that their beliefs had fallacies. While learners were solving
problems, the school bell rang and I did not have time to summarize the content for that day.

Professionally I learned that I should always take charge of the lesson in order to have a good time management.
Instead of overloading the content for the lesson, I rather cover a small portion knowing that after the lesson learners

will have mastered the content. I understood more on the content I taught than before. I somehow upgraded on my
teaching approach, it helped the learners to be free around me when I opened up to them, telling them the kind of
