LESSON 5: PART 1
FINISH BEFORE YOU START
NOTES: You must finish before you start. We can
already hear you saying, “What’s this one
all about? What in the world does it mean
to say ‘You must finish before you start?’”
Well, we’re into the fifth lesson plan, so we’re
going to ask you to think this one through for
a second. Have you figured it out yet?
This lesson is all about visualization – seeing
it and achieving it. Before you even start the
race you must visualize yourself crossing
the finish line. Think of a champion sprinter
running a 100-meter dash. They always see
themselves crossing the finish line before
they even get down in the blocks. In golf,
those who excel to the top visualize the flight
of the ball before they hit it. An architect
sees the finished product in their minds
; and proceeds to write down what it will
look like. Sometimes they’ll make a model
to show the prospective buyer an example.
Then they work backwards as they create
the blueprint of the outside of the structure.
The next picture shows the interior – the
rooms, the dimensions – then they continue
working backwards until they end up with
the plumbing and electrical. Everything is
visualized before anything is built.
In an earlier lesson we touched on this
verse in the book of Habakkuk in which the
prophet was questioning God about how to
be faithful when the future looks bleak. “And
the Lord answered me: “Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets, so he may run who
reads it.” Hab 2:2 (NIV) This is one of the
reasons it was imperative to write down
your transformation goal. Seeing it with your
eyes will help you to visualize the positive
transformation you want to achieve.
Lesson 5: Part 1
This principle is very important to mastering
whatever change you’re working on, so in
this part of the lesson we’re going to give
you an in-depth understanding of the value
of visualization. Then in part two we’re
going to discuss a technique you can use to
apply the power of visualization to your own
circumstance. Champions use this principle
all the time. If you don’t use it – The Only

Let’s get down to it!
In Genesis we read the story of Joseph the
Dreamer, a man we’ve touched on briefly
throughout the first few lessons of this
Starter Program. As the story goes, Joseph
was the favorite son of his father, which
caused great jealousy in his older brothers.
His God-given ability to see dreams of
prophetic visions only increased their
indignation toward him.
“Joseph had a dream, and when he told it
to his brothers, they hated him all the more.
He said to them, ‘Listen to this dream I had:
We were binding sheaves of grain out in the
field when suddenly my sheaf rose and
stood upright, while your sheaves gathered
around mine and bowed down to it.’”
Genesis 37:6-8 (NIV)
He would later tell them yet another dream
in which the sun, moon and 11 stars were
bowing down before him. Theses dreams
of course, were symbolic of Joseph’s future
appointment as one of Egypt’s top officials
and his brothers’ future status as subjects
who would have to come to him and beg
for help. But the fruition of these visions
