want you to journal your time for the next
seven days. Literally write down blocks of
time you spend doing every task in your
week. For example: “7 AM to 7:45 AM I got
ready for school. 7:45 AM to 8 AM traveled
to school. 8 AM to 3 PM I was in school,” and
so on. If your schedule looks like this, what
are you doing during that 3 PM to 9 PM
block? What are you doing during that 6
AM to 7 AM block? Write everything down.
Then at the end of the seven days, review
everything on the list and put them into
categories: important tasks and unimportant
tasks. How does your list of important tasks
stack up next to your list of unimportant
tasks? This will confirm whether you’ve
learned this lesson or whether you have

work to do. It’s not going to be easy at first –
we’ve already discussed how difficult it is to
start new habits and break old ones. But this
is your life we’re talking about. This is your
own personal development. This is not the
time to be tentative or lazy or complacent.
This is the time to put on your hardhat and
go to work. Because, remember if you don’t –

Your memorization for this lesson is simple
to learn yet hard to do at the start. Memorize,

which will be hard in the beginning, but will
transform your life if you master it.

LESSON 7: PART 1
BURN THE BRIDGE
Today’s lesson is titled, “Burn the Bridge.”
This saying has been used in a number of
ways throughout time. Often, it’s used as
cautionary advice to encourage you not to
destroy relationships that could potentially
be beneficial to you at some point in the
future. Someone might say, “Don’t burn
that bridge,” as a way to explain why you
should have an amiable discussion with a
person that wronged you instead of
chewing them out.
But for the purposes of our discussion, we
want you to burn the bridge. In Paul’s letter
to the Philippians he writes, “Brothers, I
do not consider that I have made it my
own. But one thing I do: forgetting what
lies behind and straining forward to what
lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for
the prize of the upward call of God in
Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 (ESV)
This verse directly speaks to the idea of
burning the bridge and leaving an old life
behind and pushing forward to something
new and greater. Listen, if you are going to
be successful in changing that bad habit or
reaching that transformation goal you’re
working on through this program, you will
have to burn the bridge!
Burn the bridge that links you to the
negativity in your past. Burn the bridge that
reminds you of things that are holding you
back from reaching your full potential. Burn
the bridge to the excuses that have kept you
from taking that next step. Burn the bridge!
Everything we have spoken about in
the previous six lessons is useless if you
try to hang on to the past. In order to

move forward you have to make a total
commitment to your future. And that’s what
burning the bridge is all about. Making a
commitment. In the first part of this lesson,
we’re going to stress the importance of
commitment and give you several examples
of people who have epitomized this
principle. In the second part of the lesson,
we’re going to present you with some tools
and secrets that successful people have been
using to keep themselves committed to the
goals they are striving for.
There are numerous instances throughout
history where you can see this kind of
commitment. For example, there have been
times when an army would land in a foreign
country and the commander of that army
would order the soldiers to “burn the ships!”
The idea here is pretty simple: conquer this
nation and have them build new ships to get
home or be driven back into the sea. You can
imagine that this motivated the army to fight
a little harder.
And what about the story of a man named

Lot in the 19 chapter of Genesis? He and his
family were the last righteous people in the
cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Because of
the wickedness that plagued the region, God
made a decision to destroy it with fire from
the sky. The Lord sent angelic messengers
to tell Lot of the cities’ impending doom.
They visited him in his home and implored
him to leave before it was too late. Lot and
his family were reluctant to abandon their
home, but finally agreed to flee Sodom and
Gomorrah! The messengers also warned
them not to look back once they had left the
city. However, as the fire began to fall from
