Sk å l is a professional organization of tourism leaders
around the world, promoting global tourism and
friendship. Sk å l, founded as an international
association in 1934, has approximately 22,000
members in 500 locations in 90 countries. Sk å l
headquarters is in Torremolinos, Spain.
Sk å l International is an affiliate member of UNWTO
and supports UNWTO ’ s mission to promote the
development of responsible, sustainable, and
universally accessible tourism. Sk å l has adopted the
Global Code of Ethics in tourism and is a sponsor of
the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from
sexual exploitation in tourism.
Following the United Nations declaration of 2002 as the
Year of Ecotourism and the Mountains, Sk å l launched
their Ecotourism Awards to highlight and acknowledge
best practices around the globe. Sk å l is a powerful
force in the tourism industry to initiate change and
encourage the conservation of the environment to
promote tourism.
