> Me: “OK” -- so I gave him my best guess.
> Joe: “Why did you guess that?”
> Me: “Doggone it Joe, you asked me to guess, and now
you’re asking me why I guessed that?”
> Joe: “Yes”
> Me: “This is not helping”
> Joe: “There was something in your thought process and
knowledge that made you guess what you guessed. Think
about that. There is likely to be an answer there
somewhere.”
> Me: “Grumble, grumble” as I left his desk.
Within a couple of days, I had put together a plan, acted
on it and solved the problem. A teaching experience that
was never forgotten and used throughout my career.
We’re a lot smarter than we think, especially if we work at
it a little.
