CO-CURRICULAR/CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
           IFSA?s Shanghai staff will arrange supplemental immersive cultural activities throughout the program that complete the
           academic themes and expose students to various aspects of life and culture in China. The following suggestions are subject
           to change, and final visits and activities will be decided upon in collaboration with faculty.
              -   Guided Walking Tour: A walking tour is a fantastic way to get acquainted with and oriented to Shanghai.
                  Participants will also see some of city?s attractions and learn about the history of the city.
              -   Maglev Museum: This interactive museum teaches visitors about the history and operation of Shanghai?s magnetic
                  levitation train system.
              -   Urban Planning Museum: On this visit the group will learn about the history of development in Shanghai and view
                  models of future planning.
              -   Shanghai Science and Technology Museum: The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum houses 11 permanent
                  exhibits and is also a post-doctoral research center. The museum covers a massive 17 acres, so participants can
                  choose an exhibit that interests them. Permanent exhibits include The Information Era, Space Navigation, and
                  World of Robots, and there is also a gallery devoted to the Technologies of Ancient China.
              -   Tai Chi Class: This Chinese martial art is beautiful to watch and fun to practice. Tai Chi is practiced for health and
                  meditation as well as part of a martial artist?s training for self-defense. Tai Chi can be enjoyed at any skill level, and
                  this beginner class will leave participants feeling centered and energized.
              -   Calligraphy Workshop: Calligraphy is an ancient art form in Chinese culture. Each stroke is meaningfully executed,
                  and the style is very personal to the calligrapher. Participants will try their hand at calligraphy and learn more
                  about the history and significance of this art.
              -   Confucian Temple: During this visit, the group will learn about the history of this important historic and cultural
                  landmark, and also learn about the engineering behind its renovation during the 1990s.
              -   Yu Garden: In this visit to the old city of Shanghai, participants will visit the beautiful Chinese garden, Yu Garden,
                  and the impressive City of the God Temple, the official city temple of Shanghai. Here participants will appreciate
                  the deep history and age of this place juxtaposed against the modern and bustling city.
              -   River Cruise: Seeing Shanghai from the river gives participants another perspective of the city. As well as being a
                  fun journey, the many bridges and the activity of the waterways can only be truly appreciated on the water.

           LOGISTICAL SUPPORT
           Housing
           Students:     13 nights in a shared-occupancy hotel rooms
           Faculty:      13 nights in a single-occupancy hotel room

           Pandemic considerations may impact student housing options for 2021. IFSA will make every effort to secure
           faculty-preferred participant housing. If availability becomes an issue prior to the roster deadline, IFSA will secure
           comparable housing.
           Meals
              -   Welcome meal
              -   Farewell meal
              -   Daily breakfast at hotel

           IFSA?s Shanghai staff will provide a list of suggested dining options for participants to explore on their own.

           In-Country Transportation
              -   Group airport pick-up by IFSA staff and transportation to housing
              -   Group airport return with IFSA staff
              -   Local Shanghai transportation pass good for the duration of the program
              -   When necessary, local transportation to program-sponsored activities
