Career Paths –Exodus Community

The Community Outreach Committee held its monthly meeting at the Exodus Community
with a focus on choosing the right career. Sorors Gladys Peck and Ronica Thomas were
the guest speakers for the event.

Soror Peck discussed the military as a career. She shared her personal story on she be-
came a member of the Air National Guard. She provided details of the required criteria to
become a member as well as the benefits and rewards of choosing a military career. Soror
Peck shared that she served thirty-eight years before retiring and offered assistance t
those that were interested in pursuing a career in the military.

Soror Thomas, Biology Department Head and Title III Activities Directory at Trenholm State
Technical College provided information on pursuing a college education. She provided re-
quirements for college entry as well as the availability of resources for financial assistance.
Soror Thomas also provided advantages to pursuing higher education and the potential im-
pact a degree (or certification) would have on career choices.

Members of the committee, Sorors Pamela Garrett, Cathey Hendricks, Judy Johnson and
Audrey Peterson were on hand to provide encouraging support as they do each month.
The mission of this continued partnership with the Family Sunshine Center is to provide
support to the women of the Exodus Community as they strive to make choices to make a
better life for themselves and their families.
