Report of the City
Harrison
Over all the year 2016 has been a very progressive year for Local 2995. The city
of Harrison mayor and finance director had been dodging pay increases and a pay plan
since passing our public safety tax in early 2015. Having a labor friendly council
allowed us to form a committee involving city council men, the union, and fire chief.
After 6 months of back and forth negotiations pay increases and a 15 year pay plan was
put into place. We have received 2 new engines and have plans for a new 75 ft. ladder
truck by next year. Currently we are adding additional SOP's to cover all major
operations of our department. We have addressed receiving additional turnouts for
personnel and repair of our existing turnout's per NFPA standards. Headsets have been
installed in all front-line engines and trucks. We have a very active safety committee
working on current safety issues. We are currently looking to add multipurpose air
monitoring equipment for all engines and command. We will be working for a SAFER
grant and stressing a strong training initiative to the current fire administration.
Fraternally,
John Neal
