REPORT OF THE CITY
On 1 Oct 2014 we were transferred from the Arkansas Air National Guard to the
Arkansas Army National Guard. A total of 17 members transferred. Due to a hiring
freeze, we are 9 positions short. At this time our command staff consist of one Assistant
Chief. On July 1 we are to receive 9 new positions which will include 1 Deputy Fire
Chief, 2 Assistant Chiefs, 1 Training Chief, and 5 firefighters.
We are having the Fire Station remodeled, due to the remodel sleeping quarters and the
kitchen are ½ mile away hurting our response times. It should be finished by June. We
did receive new equipment and a new Water Tender. Since we are building a Fire
Department from the ground up, we are having growing pains. We are working out of
the Public Safety Building with the Police on one end and Fire on the opposite end of
the building. The local management is not very receptive, but the senior leaders in Little
Rock like what we are doing. They have been by to visit and talk with our members.
Due to no Fire Chief our budget has been mismanaged. An investigation has been
launched all schools and travel have been canceled. Some of the equipment we ordered
has been delayed.
We had members active in lobbying their representatives this year. We hope to be more
active in the new year once the dust settles.
