Most importantly, have fun! Readers will
forgive the occasional flub of delivery, so allow
them to be your supportive audience and enjoy
the connection you have created. Then, make
note of the things you’d like to improve for your
next reading, and then go have fun, again.
Story time is a blast, no matter how old you
are… don’t lose that whimsy of childhood simply
because you’re interested in moving the decimal
point of your bank balance. The experience of
reading is far more important.
Reflection Prompt
Think back to a time
when you were young,
and you attended story
time. Perhaps it was at
school, or the library, at a
holiday celebration,
around a campfire, or
perhaps with your own
family. Write about the
emotions you felt while the storyteller was
reading. Nudge yourself to remember the senses
of the moment… the things you heard, the
aroma of the room, the touch of the wool rug
you sat on, or the soft blanket draped around
you. Do you remember what the title of the
book was that was read? Who were the
characters? What is the most memorable plot
point you remember? Was someone in peril, in
love, or on an adventure? Were there pictures in
