Sustainability
The Waukesha County Sustainability Plan, developed in 2008
and updated in 2016, states, “Waukesha County seeks, in a
fiscally prudent manner, to attain and maintain a place of
leadership in environmental stewardship and sustainability at
our facilities, in our operations and in the larger community of
which we are a part.” Examples of this commitment to
sustainability can be found in the strategic objectives for
Waukesha County Grounds and Site Management.
• Reduce fuel consumption and emissions through reducing mowed turf in parks and on
government center grounds
• Reduce water consumption, long-term maintenance and improve habitat by use of native
plants, xeriscaping and integrated pest management
• Install and maintain storm water management practices
• Utilize best management practice of salt usage for deicing.
More information about the ideas and principles that influence the Waukesha County perspective can be
