The above average temperatures allowed for additional
installations onto the lower fields’ exercise playground. A
newer set of parallel bars was excavated and installed . This
could be utilized for synaptic workouts as well as body weight
lits. A second sit up station was also installed. This one also
operates at a diferent steeper angle than the first novice
model. It provides a higher level workout and a greater
challenge for the more physically fit. An “up n over” rope
climbing station was built in place for all those interested in
American Ninja Warrior type workout. This piece will be great
for the youth who attend the Park Dept. Summer Program as
well. Two more pieces have been requested am dot seems that
the Peirce Trustees may be inclined to fund them: a rope
climbing pole and a small slide for ages ten and under. The slide
would be welcoming during football and lacrosse contests at
Battis. If a parent wanted to exercise, their small child would
have a slide to past their time. The purchase and installation of
those items will complete the playground, for all to enjoy! And
thanks to the Peirce Trustees, all equipment has been installed
at no cost of tax payers!
Staf. Whilst much of it went to be salvaged, some of it is
being repurposed for the Wood St. Park. DPW staf
prepped the entire area for the rubber surfacing of the
new playground. Facility Director Matt Foye managed the
design and procurement process. The goal was to have the
new playground installed by June.
To the credit of Town Manager Jay McGrail, Facility
Director Matt Foye, and the company installer Utiplay of
Blackstone MA, the new Reed’s corner opened right on
schedule! A ribbon cutting was held, showing respect to
those all involved in the process. Food and beverages were
provided and the event was filmed. The layout and design
exceeded all expectation. This was evident by the
hundreds who have attended each week once it opened.
All day and every day can parents and children be seen
enjoying this great new playground. The hard work and
efort was proven to be worthy!
As the completion of the lower exercise playground came
to an end. It was time to bring about the beginning of a new
Reed’s Corner.
Reed’s Corner, installed in 1993, had seen better days. Town
Manager Jay McGrail made the decision to begin the process of
replacing it. A number of Middleboro mothers banded together
to make their case known. Lead by Tracy Craig Mcgee, mothers
made a case for a new playground. DPW Director Christ Peck
and Supt. Dave Blanton stepped up to help cause. DPW staf
dismantled old playground equipment along side Park Dept.
