achievement but I know that the team sees it as a stepping stone to further advancement in the
future.
The pandemic tried its best to disrupt other work, but the Committee looking after Fr.
McNamara Park succeeded in having significant improvements to the playing surface; this was
done during the shutdown period and it was the silver lining of an otherwise dark period. A lot
of other improvements and reclamation of the “second” pitch were undertaken. For this we are
indebted to not only the Committee but a host of other volunteers who genuinely gave of their
time and grabbed a shovel ! It is worth noting here that we have Ennis Mens’ Shed as new
neighbours and we have been collaborating with them to our mutual benefit; I thank them
sincerely for their advice and collaboration.
There is still a lot of work to be done and the Fr. McNamara Field Committee will continue to
develop the entire site for the benefit of our players.
I must acknowledge the support that I get from a very dedicated and effective Executive team
who do great work throughout the year. Also a huge thanks to the members of all the sub-
committees without whose efforts Clare Camogie would be all the poorer. And, of course, a
massive thanks to managers, coaches, mentors of all teams and development groups, who give
of their time and expertise so generously.
A sincere thank you to the teams’ sponsor, Careerwise, for again giving us much needed
financial support. Our new arrangements for funding through the membership were put in
place this year. However, as the playing season and competitions were severely curtailed, the
Executive decided to reduce the planned contributions by 50% for 2020.
But, and I have kept the good bit for last, Brid McNamara stepped up, with some prompting
from Mike Duggan, and offered to do a sponsored virtual walk From Fr. McNamara Park to
Croke Park, and back during the month of August. What an undertaking ! As all clubs were
included in the walk, you all know the details. In summary Brid raised over €15,000 net while
walking 515 kilometers in 29 days. This was not only a grueling undertaking, but, from a Clare
Camogie perspective, it was an act of the utmost generosity by Brid. She captured the
imagination of Camogie people across the country, well beyond the confines of County Clare.
To all those who supported Brid in the planning and execution of that project, I offer you my
sincerest thanks on behalf of Clare Camogie.
It will be no surprise to you to hear that Brid has been shortlisted by Sport Ireland for their
Volunteer Awards. We all hope she is duly honoured.
AS we face the end of an extraordinary year, may I thank you all for your continued
participation in the Board’s affairs and wish you all a very Happy Christmas.
